Are you a pacifist? The word is so widely abused and misused that many people don't even know if they are pacifists themselves. Here's an easy answer: if you are concerned in any way about the damage caused by excessive militarism all over the world today, you might be a pacifist.
There is no single belief system known as pacifism, and two different pacifists might find very little to agree on. Important pacifists of the past range from British philosopher Bertrand Russell to capitalist multimillionaire Andrew Carnegie to Christian fundamentalist William Jennings Bryan. Important pacifists alive today include singer/artist Yoko Ono, novelist Nicholson Baker, and even libertarian Senator Rand Paul. We don't all have to agree on everything. We can work together for a common cause: a peaceful planet, a sane planet. If we listen to each other's differing ideas, we may even learn to see things in new ways, and broaden our own abilities to understand and persuade others.
2015 is an exciting time to be a pacifist. Pacifism.sh is an information resource and free public forum designed for anybody who is interested in exploring new perspectives and engaging with deep questions about politics and history. There's not much here yet, but we'll be growing quickly ...
